eva f’s Garden Party

A new solo-show by NYC artist eva f, also known as thechalkjungle, opens Nov. 28 at All Street Gallery, 77 East 3rd St.

This body of eight large scale images of women sprung from the artist’s reflection on her experience as a woman in today’s world.  The acrylic paintings were created in fall 2022 and started from the creation of the first painting “Eve #1, Bad Rap.”

“As I was thinking about my life and the number of times I’ve been misjudged on my intentions being bad because I was woman, I thought about the story of Eve in the bible.  I’ve always taken it a little personally since my name is a derivation from hers that she is blamed for the apple picking thing.”

“From that start, a place of my anger, or maybe my righteous indignation, evolved the work.  Four of the pieces are in the style of Eve #1, my take on how women are viewed by the world at large. They are serious, and perhaps feel a bit weighty.  The other four pieces, which are more similar in style to the work I began on the street during COVID, are a lighter take on how I view myself, childlike, out there having fun, but also conquering important things.”

“My work continues to evolve as I continue to explore different media, ideas, and techniques.  Yet at the same time, there will also be echoes of how I began, because aren’t there always?  I think that is a good thing, we need to remember where we started from to continue to grow and choose the things we keep doing and the things that we change.  There will always be a bit of the wild and free of thechalkjungle in my work because it is a part of me.”
