Nancy Wu and Jean Davis at Van Der Plas

A show featuring art made from cast-off glass by Nancy Wu and Jean Davis ends with a closing party on Jan. 8 from 2-5 PM at Van Der Plas Gallery,156 Orchard St.

Video of the opening night celebration.

The artwork, which features glass sculptures crafted from artifacts from a century-old NYC landfill shows how the garbage of one generation can be reborn as the gems of another. It also poses the question: What will today’s children be mining decades from now?

Gallery owner Adriaan Van Der Plas @adovanderplas addresses the opening night crowd.

The work is rooted in an extraordinary friendship. The two Brooklyn-based artists’ daughters became besties in 2013. In 2016, tragedy struck; Nancy lost her daughter to God’s Will. Their friendship ignited, and the ensuing journey resulted in the formation  of Resurrect Studio @resurrectstudio in 2020, a place of magnificent healing where the negotiation of pain and acceptance is met with the constant thirst for Spirit.

Nancy is an architectural designer with a background in liberal arts. Jean is a visual artist and art therapist with a lifelong connection to the restorative power of art. Both have experience in oil painting and watercolors. Using glass cast offs from a century-old Brooklyn landfill, they parlayed their skills into a new form of making – 3D Watercolors. The resulting dreamscapes are transformative.
