From Fridge With Love

“The little art fair that could” bets on the butterfly effect.

One of the only die-hard satellites in the circle of Frieze NY this year, Fridge Art Fair is back at it’s original 2013 venue, Kazuko Miyamoto’s historic Gallery OneTwentyEight, and is poised for a run that it informally now calls “Occupy Rivington Street” thanks to support from neighboring businesses between Essex and Norfolk. From May 18-22, so far, La Caverna, Essex Restaurant and Downtown Juice Bar have joined in sharing space to present Fridge exhibitors, all for the best of reasons…

The Fair’s press release states: “Having made the decision to go forward late, due to the pandemic, we feel called to respond to concurrent world events in the only way we know how to face war, crime, and the cruel divisiveness that is tearing us apart - with love. This edition is dedicated to the concept of Peace, and we hope to find ways to make our tiny show  – which ArtInfo described as  "the baby who has refused to obey orders to stand outside the door while the adults confabulate inside" –  more expansive and inclusive than ever before. Launching as it is being conceived is “Butterflies for Peace,” an ongoing, online presentation (with a possible print version to come) open to all who want to create for Peace.

Fridge founder Eric Ginsburg with a piece by Danny Licul.

"As we know from the Butterfly Effect, small actions make big things happen," says Fridge Founder, artist Eric Ginsburg, whose vision  of a fair that is part Art, but all Soul, may have met its most fitting challenge as the world steps out of the pandemic and into a time of struggle that is also an opportunity for positive change. "Be the butterfly," adds Fridge Spiritual Advisor Linda DiGusta, who compares this time in our world to coming out of chrysalis with fresh powers and freedom, "and peace is possible!
